Frequently asked questions.

  • How much does it cost?

  • The cost depends on the pottery item you choose to paint. Prices start at £5.00. Our prices are all inclusive so there are no studio fees or glazing fees to add. The price you see is the price you pay.

  • How does it work?

  • You choose a piece of pottery from or wide selection in the studio. We provide the brushes and a good range of coloured underglazes for you to decorate your piece with. You paint 3 layers onto your piece allowing each layer to dry before adding the next. Don’t worry if children don’t manage the three layers their piece will still be lovely. It’s just the colour may not be as opaque.

  • You leave the piece with us and we will glaze and fire it in the kiln. You can collect your fired piece in around a week. If we are very busy this may take a little longer, but we will advise you of this on the day.

  • You don’t need to bring anything with you although some like to bring pictures for inspiration.

  • How long does it take to paint a piece?

  • It depends on the piece you choose to paint & the age of the painter. On average it takes about an hour. Younger children tend to be quicker than older ones. We have some smaller items for little ones whose attention span may be shorter.

  • Is my child too young?

  • No, it’s great for developing fine motor skills. We have a couple of high chairs in the studio. That wonky eyed mermaid will be a treasure in a few years.

  • Is there anything we can do and take away on the day?

  • Yes, we stock foam clay in lots of colours. Foam clay will mould onto our pottery and can be taken away on the day. The price remains the same. The only items you cannot cover in foam clay are items meant for food use such as plates, mugs and bowls.

  • Do you accept card payments?

  • Yes we do.

  • Are the paints safe and washable?

  • Yes we use non-toxic underglazes that wash off with water. We also provide aprons.

  • Are the glazed items food safe?

  • Yes, we apply a food safe glaze prior to firing so you can enjoy a cuppa from your personalised mug.

  • Are fired items microwave and dishwasher safe?

  • We do not recommend you put these items in the dishwasher or microwave. Please handwash your hand painted items.

  • Is there parking nearby?

  • Yes, we are situated on a petting farm there is ample free parking nearby.

  • What happens if it goes wrong in the kiln?

  • It does not happen often but it can happen & when it does it’s upsetting for us too. Should this happen we will offer you the choice of coming back to the studio to make a new one (same value as the broken piece) at no extra cost or we will offer a full refund.

  • Can I leave my children unaccompanied?

  • No all children must be accompanied by an adult. If children are attending a party & the parent/s of the birthday child are present, they may take responsibility for the children attending.

  • Do you serve food?

  • We do not serve food during the farm cafe opening hours 9.30-4. The farm cafe and shop is only a few steps from the studio and are they are happy to provide take out which can be consumed in the studio. We do not recommend eating during play with clay sessions.

  • We do offer food packages with our pre-bookable events such as parties and evening events. See calendar and party page for further details.
